Why recycle your drone instead of throwing it away
A drone contains Li-Po batteries, circuit boards, motors with magnets, and plastic and aluminum parts — exactly the kind of electrical and electronic waste (WEEE) that doesn't belong in household trash. Discarded Li-Po batteries are a real fire risk in waste facilities, and electronic components contain heavy metals that can pollute soil and water if not processed correctly.
Recycling through DroneDoctor means your drone goes to authorized e-waste recycling companies, exactly as required by law, or gets disassembled at our Service for functional parts — motors, boards, sensors — that can be reused in other repairs, cutting down on waste.
Which DJI drones we accept for recycling
We accept any DJI model, regardless of condition or age: Mini 2, Mini 3, Mini 4 Pro, Air 2S, Air 3, Mavic 2, Mavic 3, Avata, DJI FPV, Phantom, and more. It doesn't matter if the drone won't turn on at all, has a burnt mainboard, went down in water, is missing parts, or is simply an old model you no longer fly.
You can send just the drone body or, if you'd like, the battery, remote, and accessories too — we recycle all of it. If you're not sure whether your drone is worth repairing or recycling, you can start with a free diagnostic through the service form — if repair isn't cost-effective, we offer free recycling directly, with no charge for shipping or diagnostic.
How the recycling process works
Step 1: Fill in the form on the site and mention that the drone is for recycling, not repair. You can note the model, if known, and whether you're including accessories.
Step 2: We schedule the courier, who picks up the package for free from anywhere in Romania, at the address you provide.
Step 3: Once it arrives at our Service, the drone enters the recycling process — either disassembled for functional parts or handed over to authorized electrical and electronic waste recycling companies, per Art. 8 of our Terms and Conditions.
What happens to the drone after handover
Voluntarily handing over the equipment for recycling is final and irreversible — once submitted for recycling, the drone cannot be returned. Functional components (motors, boards, sensors, cables) may be recovered and reused in other Service repairs, while the rest of the materials are handed over to authorized companies, per Art. 8 of our Terms and Conditions.
This is the same process applied to equipment for which a customer declines repair and states in writing that they no longer want it returned — responsible recycling, disassembly for parts, or, occasionally, internal use for technical training.
Privacy and personal data
Modern DJI drones can retain flight logs, GPS maps, or photo/video files on the memory card or internal storage. We recommend removing the memory card and, if possible, resetting the drone to factory settings before sending it for recycling. DroneDoctor does not access or use in any way the data left on equipment submitted for recycling.
